Dawn Chemello’s artistic journey began with the humble paint-by-number set of her childhood, sparking a lifelong passion that evolved into the stunning works of art you see today.
Over the years, she has mastered various mediums, from graphite and watercolors to oil pastels, acrylics, and inks, with a special love for oils. This versatility and dedication have made her a sought-after artist, with formal training in California complementing her self-taught beginnings.
Her art is not just a product of talent but of persistence and a deep connection to her craft.
Every setback and failure in the early days of her artistic exploration brought her closer to understanding and mastering the nuances of oil paints. The result is a collection of paintings that resonate with emotion and technical brilliance, showcased in prestigious venues such as the Prescott Center for the Arts and Yavapai College Art Gallery in 2023.

It was a beautiful morning for a flight, November 20th 1968. I’m on my way to the flight line at Hunter Army Airfield, Savannah, Georgia, for my next to the last training flight to qualify in the Cobra Gunship. The US Army pilots passionately nicknamed it “The Snake”. It has a Crew of 2, is 53 feet long, rotor diameter 53 feet, height 13 feet 6 inches, maximum takeoff weight 9500 pounds, powered by a Lycoming T53 turboshaft 1100 SHP engine, 2 bladed semi-ridged main rotor system. Never exceed speed 190 knots (216 miles per hour [mph], range 310 NM, service ceiling 11,400 feet, normal rate of climb 1230 feet per minute. What an amazing aircraft. It is so much fun to fly. I graduated Warrant Officer Helicopter Flight Training (WOFT class 68-15), got my officers bars and my wings and now I’m getting qualified in the Cobra Gunship. I have todays flight, one more training flight, and then
I have to be in country Vietnam December 20th 1968. So off we go. I have completed basic training in the helicopter and now we are doing the gunnery training. My instructor and I get to the flight line and preflight the helicopter. Everything looks good, so we climb into the Cobra, and crank her up.
